Where else in the world do history
and the future, nature and technology, young and old meet for an unforgettable
and inspirational journey through space and time? The Kennedy Space Center has
hosted millions of guests from around the world for more than 30 years --
telling the story of how the United States built a space program that launched
men to the moon, orbited satellites that have improved our lives, and sent
probes into distant space to solve the mysteries of the cosmos.
Blastoff!
Check out the actual launch pad where the space shuttle gets launched into
space, and learn some amazing facts about the shuttle missions. You'll also get
to see the small quarters where the astronauts live and work while they're in
space.
Ever touch a moon rock? You can at the Apollo/Saturn
V Center - and you can stand right next to one of the gigantic rockets
built to take us to the moon.
Interested in your own space future? The International Space Station is
scheduled to be finished in 2003. At the Kennedy Space Center you can see
people putting together parts of the International Space Station. When it's
finished, it will weigh over 470 tons and will be the largest structure ever to
be placed in orbit. Walk inside a mock-up of the Habitation and Laboratory
modules where future astronauts (could this be you?) will live, sleep and work.
The Kennedy Space
Center Visitor Complex is proud to present three great IMAX®
movies, shown on screens 5-1/2 stories tall! You won't want to miss "L5:
First City in Space." It's in 3-D (yes, you have to wear special glasses)
and tells the story of a young girl who lives in a future space settlement. The
special effects are incredible, and it's based on real possibilities for life in
outer space.
There's more than space happening at KSC. This area is also a wildlife
preserve, home to 15 endangered species, including the gentle manatee. If you
have keen eyes, you're likely to see an alligator - nearly 5,000 of them live
on-site!
To enjoy the wildlife add the Eco-Tour option to your day at Kennedy Space
Centre. Start the day with a 30
minute airboat ride through part of the Merrit Island Wildlife Refuge?
Guaranteed sights of eagles, black bears, deer and alligators - all in their
natural habitat. Only available April to November on Wednesdays.
